Handmade + Machine Made Unlike tradtional woodworkers I embrace computer driven woodworking machines, as well as fine hand craftsmanship. Each has their place. I make use of outside producers in order to realize products like my carved wood boxes, and the quality modern pet furniture I make for UNDER 1 WOOF.
But to create the sheer pine veneer lamps shown to the right, I make and assemble every bit myself. These works are on the outer edge of what can be made from wood, and I enjoy the challenge of making the curved parts, handsawing the 1/32" thick veneer so that it transmits light, and framing each knot of pine in its own orderly frame. These are works of both function, and contemplation.
Aesthetcis My asethetic has been desribed as a sort of warm modernism. I love crisp geomety, and structural integretity, yet I am bored by the too perfect room, in which no one feels terrible at ease. |
